The Path for Young 5-Year-Olds

Another step in the Story Book Kids, Inc School Readiness Pathway is Junior Kindergarten. If you feel your child isn’t quite old enough to start kindergarten or might need additional skill development before getting into a school setting, Junior Kindergarten is the path for them.

Your child will become familiar with the structure and format of a day in kindergarten while developing critical skills needed for elementary school, such as:
  • Following multi-step instructions
  • Organizing work
  • Controlling impulses
  • Finding multiple ways to solve problems
In this classroom, learning is driven by the needs of the young five-year-old; the pace of study is set by the specific strengths and readiness of these students. Junior Kindergarten focuses on:

  • Word building and decoding
  • Reading and writing common sight words
  • Comprehending stories and informational texts
  • Writing stories and ideas
